How we handle personal information collected through this website.

Victoria Neurosurgery Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) — the practice of Mr Jeremy Russell, Consultant Neurosurgeon (AHPRA MED0001204036) — is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information collected through this website, drjeremyrussell.com.au, in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Last updated: 22 August 2026.

The information we collect

Information you give us. When you contact us, request an appointment, or complete the new-patient form, we may collect your name, date of birth, contact details, referral information, and any health information you choose to provide. Providing this information is voluntary, but we may not be able to respond or arrange your appointment without it.

Information collected automatically. When you browse the website, we collect limited technical information through analytics tools (see Cookies and website analytics below) — such as the pages you view, how long you spend on them, the files you download, your approximate location, the type of device and browser you use, and the website that referred you. This information is used in aggregate and is not used to personally identify you.

Cookies and website analytics

This website uses Google Analytics (GA4), a service provided by Google, to help us understand how visitors use the site — for example, which condition pages are most read and which information sheets are downloaded — so that we can improve the information we provide.

  • Google Analytics uses cookies and similar identifiers, and may collect your IP address and device information. Google processes this data on our behalf; some of it may be stored or processed on servers outside Australia. Google’s own privacy policy applies to its handling of this data.
  • We use Google Consent Mode, and the cookie notice shown when you first visit lets you accept or decline analytics cookies. If you decline, analytics runs in a limited, cookieless way or not at all.
  • We do not use this data to identify you personally, and we do not sell it or use it for advertising.
  • You can also opt out at any time by adjusting your browser’s cookie settings or by installing Google’s browser opt-out add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Our website server also keeps standard access logs (via our hosting provider) recording basic technical information such as pages and files requested. These are used for security, maintenance and download statistics.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • respond to your enquiries and arrange appointments;
  • provide and coordinate your care;
  • maintain, secure and improve the website; and
  • meet our legal and professional obligations.
Disclosure of your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose it to:

  • service providers who help us operate the website and practice (for example, our website host, secure-messaging and analytics providers), who are required to protect it; and
  • others where you have consented, or where we are required or authorised by law.
Health information

Any health information you provide, and the clinical records created in the course of your care, are handled with additional protections under the health-privacy provisions of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic). This website policy concerns your use of the website; a copy of our practice privacy arrangements for clinical care is available from the rooms on request.

Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. Information is retained only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law, after which it is securely destroyed or de-identified. Detailed (event-level) analytics data is retained for 14 months; aggregated, de-identified usage statistics may be kept for longer so that we can understand how use of the website changes over time.
Accessing and correcting your information
You may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. Contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time; in limited circumstances permitted by law we may decline a request and will explain why.
Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers (including Google) may store or process information on servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first (details below) and we will do our best to resolve it. If you are not satisfied, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this website, with the date it was last updated shown above.
