- A fluid-filled cavity (syrinx) that forms within the spinal cord
- Can cause pain, weakness and loss of temperature sensation
- Often linked to a Chiari malformation or previous injury
- Diagnosed on MRI of the brain and spine
- Typically no treatment is required; when it is, treatment addresses the underlying cause of the fluid build-up
