Colloid Cysts
A benign cyst deep in the brain — usually harmless, but occasionally needs treatment.
In brief
- A benign, fluid-filled cyst in the third ventricle of the brain
- Often found incidentally and causes no symptoms
- Can block CSF flow, causing headaches or hydrocephalus, and in very rare situations, sudden loss of consciousness
- Diagnosed on MRI or CT
- Monitored, or surgically removed if there is early evidence of fluid obstruction, or the cyst is beyond a certain size
