Hydrocephalus (Normal Pressure)

Tumours of the pituitary gland — usually benign, and often treatable through the nose.
In brief
  • A build-up of cerebrospinal fluid on the brain despite normal pressure
  • Classically causes difficulty walking, urinary urgency or incontinence, and occasional cognitive decline
  • Often mistaken for other conditions of ageing
  • Diagnosed on MRI and confirmed with a lumbar puncture and brain-fluid drainage trial
  • Treated by inserting a shunt to divert the excess fluid
A detailed information sheet on Hydrocephalus (Normal Pressure) is currently being prepared. In the meantime, Mr Russell welcomes the opportunity to discuss your diagnosis and treatment options with you.
